The California Delta has many bridges on its rivers and sloughs. These bridges have reduced the need for the ferries that used to be so plentiful, but there are still several ferries operating in the California Delta. Many boats find that they need to call for an opening of the bridges in order to pass by. Some bridges have regular operating schedules; others open by appointment only. A few don’t open at all.
