On Saturday morning, February 22, 2003, the freighter “Cefalonia”, carrying fertilizer, ran aground in the Deepwater Channel (San Joaquin River) near the entrance to the Mokelumne River. The first attempt to pull her free using tugs was unsuccessful, and she remained anchored there until high tide on Monday morning, February 24, 2003, when she was finally pulled free and continued on to Stockton.
