Hull Surveys
Just as you would most likely have a house inspector look over a resale home you were purchasing, it is prudent to have a marine surveyor inspect a used boat before you finalize the purchase. A marine surveyor will be looking for such things as dryrot, moisture in the bulkheads, loose railings, and blisters in the hull, plus the surveyor will check to see that all equipment is operable. An engine surveyor will be looking for problems with the engines. Most, if not all, of these things cannot be readily seen with the casual eye. The fees for these inspections are paid by the buyer, but they are a wise investment considering the potential consequences of not having them. If you are financing your boat, the lender will require that a survey be done. The surveyor will also place an appraised value on the boat.
